While millions watched President Obama speak at the memorial service of Nelson Mandela and we captivated by his words, many watched in horror.
Deaf people watching the Nelson Mandela memorial were shocked by a “fake” sign language interpreter on stage whose gestures were unintelligible.
Hundreds of people took to social media to express their anger at the interpreter’s gestures, and several deaf groups confirmed his motions did not reflect the comments being made to honor Mandela
Paul Breckell, chief executive of the U.K.-based charity Action on Hearing Loss, told NBC News: “We are shocked by the quality of sign language interpretation at Nelson Mandela’s memorial — if it could be called interpretation at all.”
He added that “the limited number of signs, the amount of repetition, lack of facial expressions and huge gaps in translation meant that deaf or hard of hearing people across the world were completely excluded from one of the biggest events in recent history.”
Among the first to express their dissatisfaction was Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen, the first deaf woman to be elected to the South African parliament, who tweeted that the signing was “rubbish,” adding: “He cannot sign. Please get him off.”
Michigan Legislature has passed a law banning almost all abortion coverage from health insurance plans unless an additional policy is bought.
The Right to Life-backed initiative becomes law in March without Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's signature. He vetoed similar legislation last year, but has no power to do so this time. The Senate voted 27-11.
The House voted 62-47.Employers and individuals will have to buy extra insurance to cover almost all abortions. Their primary plan won't apply in cases of rape or incest and only if an abortion is needed to save the woman's life.
Of 23,000 abortions in Michigan last year, health insurance covered 3 percent. This is a Big deal going into 2014!
What do you think? Should women be required to buy special abortion insurance?

The Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board approved a 30-year lease of Belle Isle to the State of Michigan.
Under the agreement, the city will maintain ownership while the Michigan DNR will take over the responsibilities of managing the park. The Michigan Department of Transportation will take over road and bridge maintenance on the island.
“This partnership will provide significant State investment in Belle Isle as its newest State Park, while the city retains ownership of one of its jewels. This historic agreement will also ensure that citizens have a clean, safe, family environment they will be able to utilize and enjoy for years to come.”
The family of a missing Louisiana woman rescued her and killed her alleged abductor Friday, authorities said. Authorities had been searching for Scott Thomas, 29, of Leonville, since Wednesday when he arrived at a daycare center and confronted Bethany Arceneaux, 29, of Duson.
Thomas, who is the father of Arceneaux's child, allegedly forced Arceneaux into his vehicle and drove away. The pair's 2-year-old child was left inside Arceneaux's car at the daycare. Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Kip Judice confirmed Friday that friends and family were searching for Arceneaux Friday and entered a vacant house where they believed they heard someone screaming.
Thomas, who was armed with a knife, allegedly began to injure Arceneaux and one of Arceneaux's family members shot Thomas to stop him. Source
*Although the shooting is still under investigation, officers have ruled the shooting justified and the family will not face criminal charges.

A Chinese man divorced and then sued his ex-wife for giving birth to what he called an extremely ugly baby girl, the Irish Times reported.
Initially, Jian Feng accused his wife of infidelity, so sure that he could never father an unattractive child.
When a DNA test proved that the baby was his, Feng’s wife came clean on a little secret — before they met, she had undergone about $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery in South Korea.
Feng sued his ex-wife on the grounds of false pretenses, for not telling him about the plastic surgery and duping him into thinking she was beautiful, The Huffington Post reported.
The kicker? He won. A judge agreed with Feng’s argument and ordered his ex-wife to fork over $120,000.
“I married my wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having marital issues,” he told the Irish Times. “Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me.”
What do you think? Was he wrong or justified in his actions?! Source
